Itinerary
Begin your adventure surrounded by the sights, sounds, and scents of one of the last remaining strongholds of wild orangutans. As the trail gently winds through the dense tropical forest, your senses will come alive. The rustle of leaves, distant calls of gibbons, and the vibrant colors of butterflies fluttering past.
Keep your eyes on the treetops, where orangutans may appear, gracefully swinging from branch to branch. Spotting one in the wild is a magical moment you won’t soon forget.
Your experienced local guide will not only help you find these gentle primates but also share fascinating insights into their daily habits, diet, and social behavior. You’ll learn about their role in the rainforest and how they help maintain the delicate balance of this unique ecosystem.
This is more than just a trek, it’s a journey into a fragile world that few ever get to witness up close.
After a morning of jungle trekking, it’s time to relax and enjoy a freshly prepared local lunch in the peaceful shade of the rainforest. Every day, our team cooks with love using fresh ingredients brought in from the village that same morning. Depending on the day, you’ll be treated to either delicious nasi goreng (fried rice) or mie goreng (fried noodles), both served with vegetables, egg, and chicken.
To top it off, you’ll also enjoy a refreshing selection of seasonal tropical fruits. Sweet, juicy, and perfect after a hike. You’ll be amazed how good food tastes surrounded by nature!
With new energy after your forest meal, it’s time to head deeper into the jungle. The trail leads you further into the heart of Gunung Leuser National Park, where the forest grows wilder and the chances of encountering wildlife increase.
Keep your camera ready, besides more opportunities to see orangutans, you might also spot Thomas’ leaf monkeys with their spiky hair, playful long-tailed macaques, gibbons calling through the canopy, and flashes of color from tropical birds overhead.
As you walk, your guide will point out useful jungle plants and trees, sharing how local communities use them for traditional medicine, cooking, and even jungle survival. It’s a unique chance to connect with nature not just visually, but culturally.
This part of the trek blends adventure with discovery, as every step reveals something new. Whether it’s animal tracks, edible leaves, or a hidden forest sound you’ve never heard before.
We finish the trek at the beautiful Bohorok River. Cool off with a refreshing swim, relax by the water, or simply enjoy the peaceful surroundings. To return to Bukit Lawang, you can either walk back or take the fun route: float down the river on a jungle raft made of rubber tubes (optional, and highly recommended!).
